Your Money: Trashing your ex on Facebook may cost you

(Reuters) - The old maxim goes: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. For divorcing spouses, that may actually constitute legal advice in these days where Internet and social...

Tumblr Updates Its iOS App With More Sharing Features & GIFs That Actually Animate

Tumblr has updated its iOS application for iPhone and iPad with new sharing options and other features – a move which follows yesterday’s launch of Tumblr for Windows Phone. Unfortunately, however, the iOS version didn’t get the fancy new, almost Path-like animations the Android version received earlier this month. So yeah, the Android version is currently the better application. Surprise! Okay, that’s a subjective call, I’ll admit. But I rather like the now-trendy, little, round buttons in the Tumblr Android version, which pop out when you tap the “compose” option. And no, I don’t care if everyone is doing round now. Besides, only hipsters will whine about Tumblr copying Path at this point anyway. As for today’s iOS enhancements, the company touts the release as offering you tools that let you “do more than just reblog.” Specifically, you can share to Twitter and Facebook, save items in Instapaper and Pocket, email posts in a templated format, and more. A couple of ...

The Post Post-PC Era: Will Apple, Google, Samsung, Amazon Or Microsoft Win?

Editor’s note: Peter Relan is a former developer and Oracle’s former VP of Internet Division, a serial entrepreneur since 1998, and a Silicon Valley angel investor. Relan founded YouWeb Incubator in 2007, spinning out a string of successful mobile and gaming companies. Follow him on Twitter @prelan. Even before Apple’s 10 percent stock dip, it was clear that one battle was already over. Put down your arms – Android has won the smartphone OS marketshare war. The competitive drama of the smartphone battle has already unfolded to a large extent and is well understood: Android dominates unit shipment volumes, while iPhone dominates profits associated with smartphones. It may seem like too early a claim, but history tells us Google’s Android distribution model puts the large part of the smartphone market in its corner. No other OS has seen a reversal of fortune this late in the game (think Windows in the early ’90s and Nokia with feature phones in the early aughts). And yet, many ...

How Facebook’s Graph Search Just Replaced A Major Chunk Of Google

Facebook just took a big bite out of Google. Today, the social network announced Graph Search, a new feature that lets you search the interests, location, and preferences of your friends. For anyone who uses the Internet to search restaurant recommendations, travel advice, books to read on vacation, or which political candidates to vote for, Facebook may have replaced Google as the best search engine. Birds of a feather flock together, and only Facebook can let you know about all the cool things your friends experience that'd you'd also like to know about.

Dear Facebook, It Could Really Be This Simple

“The one positive thing that this week has so far thrown light on is that there is a widespread recognition that things cannot stay the same.” — Keith Teare Oh ye of little faith: For the many of us who BELIEVE in Consumer Internet, it’s so painful to watch the Facebook/Groupon/Zynga stock trainwreck continue, with Facebook shares slipping to below $20.00 today, the lowest they’ve ever been. Shares slipped so much this afternoon that even our head-over-heels-in-love with-Facebook guy offered the former startup some monetization advice earlier, and if I were Facebook I would take it. The concerns about Facebook’s viability as a company have been hashed and rehashed by people barely if at all qualified to do so. At this point, we underqualified tech writers know them by heart: It basically boils down to mobile insecurity, a 1/58 price-to-earnings ratio and whatever “I don’t trust Zuck” means, which makes old fogies my parents conservative investors nervous. But, the moment ...
