Samsung Strategy Officer: iPhone-Induced “Crisis Of Design” Docs Were Exaggerated To Motivate Employees
We're just commencing Week Two of the Samsung v. Apple trial in San Jose, and Judge Lucy Koh opened the day with a joke, saying that there had been a false hope in her heart this weekend that the two would settle. But these two electronics giants are still ready to battle it out, and have brought Justin Denison, Samsung's Chief Strategy officer, back to the stand. After some questions about whether or not STA sells directly to consumers, and whether or not Galaxy phones are different from one model to the next, Samsung's lawyer Mr. Quinn was about to actually make a point. He mentioned that throughout the trial, there have been comments such as "Samsung is in a crisis of design" and "the difference between the iPhone and the Galaxy phones are like heaven and earth."

Samsung Galaxy S4 Shipments Top 6 Million In 15 Days
Samsung has confirmed via the Korean website Chosun Ilbo that it has shipped over 6 million units of the Galaxy S4 since its international release on April 26. According to the firm, this is the fastest ever sell rate for a Galaxy S smartphone, or any other Samsung smartphone for that matter. Specifically, the Galaxy S4 hit 4 million shipments between April 26 (release date) and April 30, and had reached 6 million units sold by May 10. For a little perspective, the Galaxy S sold 3 million units in 85 days, while the Galaxy S2 took 55 days to achieve the same feat, and the Galaxy S III hit the 3 million mark in just 21 days. An executive at the company told Chosun Ilbo the following: “As of the end of April, we supplied four million Galaxy S4 handsets to telecommunication operators around the world. As of Friday, we have sold more than 6 million units, and we predict that we could break the 10-million mark by as early as the end of this month.” It’s worth noting that these “sales” ...

Dots, The Most Beautiful Mobile Game I've Ever Seen
You remember the first time you played Angry Birds, right? What about the first time you picked up the iPhone 4 and realized just how beautiful a phone can be, both in hardware and software? Well, the latest company to launch out of betaworks mixes the addictive nature of Angry Birds with the minimalist beauty of Apple’s hardware and software. Meet Dots. The idea is simple: Everyone has played connect the dots with their friends during science class or with a sibling on a long plane ride. Dots is the digital version of the classic pencil-and-paper game. The rules are slightly different. Instead of drawing against another player, or being allowed a single line at a time, you simply connect all the dots of the same color that are in a straight line. The more dots you can connect, the more points you get. If you happen to be able to connect the dots into a square, you get even more points. Each game lasts 60 seconds, but it never feels like long enough. The choice to build a game surprised ...

Blink, A New App For Ephemeral Text And Photo Messaging, Arrives On iPhone
Blink, a new mobile application for ephemeral messaging, is debuting today on the Apple App Store allowing users to text, plus share photos, and soon videos, with other friends as well as with groups. The app represents a spin-off from the same technology which also powers social friend finder, Kismet. Though the company says it has no plans to shut down Kismet at this time, its current focus will be on continuing the development of Blink at present. You may remember Kismet, founded by ex-Googler Kevin Stephens and Michelle Norgan, as one of the apps which surged in popularity around the time of SXSW 2012, when “ambient location” seemed to be the latest trend. As it turned out, while Kismet saw some pick up on college campuses, and particularly in the Greek community, its user base remained under a million. Now Blink is repurposing the company’s technology platform to attack mobile social networking from a new angle: disposable messaging. The mobile messaging market is huge, fragmented, ...

Reports Detail Amazon Appstore's Growing Influence, Revenue Potential
Amazon doesn’t share details on how well its Amazon Appstore apps sell, but according to mobile app analytics firm App Annie, the app marketplace is seeing growing traction among developers. The company surveyed over 1,500 developers, and found that 22.5 percent of them were now publishing to the Amazon Appstore, and half of that group (50 percent) cited Amazon as their leading revenue driver. This backs up previous reports which confirm roughly the same thing: Amazon Appstore’s revenue per user tops that of Google Play, or even iOS, in some cases. Last summer, for example, mobile gaming startup TinyCo, was saying that its revenue per user was higher on Amazon than on iTunes or Google Play. However, another report from Flurry said that iTunes was number one, and Amazon was in second place in terms of its revenue generation capabilities. Flurry had found that for every $1 spent on the iOS store, Amazon’s store generated $0.89, and Google Play $0.23. But this was over a year ago; App ...
