Why Zuckerberg's Lobby Is Collapsing Like A House Of Cards Outside Of DC

“Power is a lot like real estate. It’s all about location, location, location.” — Frank Underwood, House of Cards At this very moment, Mark Zuckerberg’s political lobby, FWD.us, is probably taken aback at how reviled it has become, both from the public and its own members. After all, there are countless political technology lobbies, including Facebook’s own Political Action Committee, which routinely offer Republican candidates campaign cash for quid pro quo political favor. So, why, after discovering FWD.us indirectly supporting the controversial Keystone Pipeline initiative, have would-be supporters flooded their Facebook page with scathing comments, and its A-list supporters, such as Tesla’s Elon Musk, ditched the group? Unlike other lobbies, FWD.us burst on to the scene with a very public op-ed from its celebrity founder, promising to galvanize the latent civic passions of Silicon Vally’s netizens in a noble crusade to advance the knowledge society. While one hand extended ...

AP Twitter Hack Preceded By A Phishing Attempt, News Org Says

The AP Twitter hack which sent the stock market briefly crashing was caused by a phishing attack, according to the AP. The news organization now says the attack on Twitter was “preceded by a phishing attempt on AP’s corporate network.” The Twitter attack, which has now become another high-profile example of why Twitter may serve as a breaking news outlet, but not a trustworthy one, came less than an hour after AP staff received “an impressively disguised phishing email” – at least, according to AP reporter Mike Baker, who shared this detail on Twitter. His account does not appear to be hacked, though we’ve asked both Baker and AP to confirm that fact, as well as the context of his tweets. (More to come Update: Although the AP confirmed the Twitter hack was preceded by a phishing attempt, an AP spokesperson declined to confirm Baker’s time frame of “less than an hour,” saying the AP had nothing further to add at this time.) While the tweet referencing an attack on the ...

Rejection of Reality: Apple Denies Endgame:Syria

arclightfire writes " Endgame:Syria billed itself as the first game to cover on ongoing war in a mashup of interactivity and journalism. However it seems like Apple is not happy with this idea, as PocketTactics reports; "Apple's app guidelines have once again tripped up the release of a strategy game rooted in a real-world conflict. Auroch Digital's Endgame Syria has been rejected by Apple's approvals team for violating guidelines section 15.3, 'solely target[ing] a specific race, culture, a real government or corporation, or any other real entity'. If section 15.3 sounds familiar, it's because it was the clause invoked when Cupertino said no to Pacific Fleet back in September – the game ran afoul of the guidelines for including Japanese flags in a WWII naval sim.""
