Video Released Of Shadowy Chinese Army Hacker Unit In Action
An official, shadowy Chinese hacker group is reportedly responsible for more than 100 high-level attacks against major corporations and governments. The group, known as Advanced Persistent Threat” (APT1) was outed today in a 60-page report by security firm Mandiant, which has been tracking the army unit for six years. The company also released a technical, step-by-step video (below) of how one of the hackers steals information. “The sheer scale and duration of sustained attacks against such a wide set of industries from a singularly identified group based in China leaves little doubt about the organization behind APT1,” concludes the report. Even if most readers aren’t familiar with the highly technical language of the video, it’s fascinating to watch this alleged hacker sign up for a Gmail account and begin hunting for vulnerable targets. At the 1:00 mark, Mandiant shows the hacker exploiting a common technique known as “spear phishing”: sending innocuous emails to lure victims ...

Video Of 3D Printed Gun Magazine Shows Off Deadly High-Capacity ‘Wiki Weapon’
A new video showcasing the future of weapons was released on YouTube today: a enterprising 24-year-old gun enthusiast manufactured his own high-capacity 30-round gun magazine using a 3D printer. Hoping to spread the amateur design of more “Wiki Weapons”, the rebellious 24-year-old designer nicknamed the blueprints of the weapon, the “Cuomo,” named after New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, who signed a recent ban on all gun magazines in excess of 7 rounds. “He [Cuomo] wants to be associated with these magazines,” designer Cody Wilson told Talking Points Memo. “Lets make that association permanent.” Wilson’s Defense Distributed wants to catalyze a massive online catalog of weapons, similar to the user-generated encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The online blueprints, which are free and open to tinkering, have already been downloaded over 100,000 times, according to TPM. 3D printed weapons have faced harsh backlash from others in the growing industry of amateur 3D printing, the so-called ...

Confidential Police Documents Found In Confetti At Macy's Parade
cstacy writes "The Nassau County (New York) Police Department is 'very concerned' about reports that shreds of police documents (with social security numbers, phone numbers, addresses, license plate numbers, incident reports, and more) rained down as confetti in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The documents also unveiled the identities of undercover officers, including their SSNs and bank information, according to WPIX-TV. Macy's has no idea how this happened, as they use commercial, colored confetti, not shredded paper."
