New York Startup Scene Shines At TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2013
The champagne bottles are empty. The startups are packing up. TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2013 is a wrap, and it was a hell of a show. Enigma won the Startup Battlefield, taking home $50,000 and the Disrupt Cup. Ryan Lawler’s Urban Transportation panel was somehow more rowdy than Josh Constine’s talk with Rap Genius. Ashton Kutcher showed up and proved yet again his value as a Silicon Valley venture capitalist. There was even a special screening of Alex Winter’s upcoming film about the rise and fall of Napster, “Downloaded”. It just wasn’t the door-busting attendance that proved this was the best Disrupt yet. The show featured the best startups, the best speakers, all at the beautiful Manhattan Center in New York City. I know we say this after each Disrupt — this is, after all, the eighth Disrupt show — but this really was the best show yet. Oprah Winfrey visit to Montreal has rabid fans - and a protester
One of the richest and most popular and admired women on Earth was in Montreal this week at the Bell Centre and the Gazette newspaper noted that not all of the 15,000 in attendance were admirers. At least one, the paper said, did not come to praise her.

TechCrunch is rolling into Texas, Washington, California and Massachusetts this year for our patented Meetup+Pitch Off events, parties dedicated to exposing the coolest startups in your home town.
