Join CrunchGov's Town Hall With @CoryBooker On Immigration For #iMarch Right Now
Some of the Internet’s most notable personalities are bringing attention to the need for immigration reform in a 36-hour social media marathon, The March for Innovation. It’s an issue we know our readers care about, so we’re thrilled to give you the opportunity to join part-time superhero, full-time mayor of Newark, definitely-maybe Senate candidate, and one of The Most Innovative People In Democracy, Cory Booker, in a rousing town hall. Mayor Booker and I will be answering questions on Twitter and responding to a few reader questions in our comments (officially begins Noon PT). Background As I’ve written about before, the United States definitely has a costly tech-talent shortage, which can only be filled by attracting the best and brightest from around the world. Despite near unanimous support for more high-skilled immigrants, the United States Congress could not move forward without a comprehensive package that included all foreign-born workers. The Design of Code: Organizing JavaScript
Great design is a product of care and attention applied to areas that matter, resulting in a useful, understandable, and hopefully beautiful user interface. But don’t be fooled into thinking that design is left only for designers. There is a lot of design in code, and I don’t mean code that builds the user interface—I mean the design of code. Well-designed code is much easier to maintain, optimize, and extend, making for more efficient developers. There are three high-level, language-agnostic aspects to code design that are particularly important. System architecture—The basic layout of the codebase. Rules that govern how various components, such as models, views, and controllers, interact with each other. Maintainability—How well can the code be improved and extended? Reusability—How reusable are the application’s components? How easily ...

Opera's WebKit-Based Android Browser Exits Beta To Battle Apps For Users' Attention

The full launch for the browser previously code-named Ice adds a few addition minor updates to the meaty feature-set demoed at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow back in February. The Android browser represents a huge shift for Opera as it moves away from its own Presto framework to the de facto standard WebKit engine, plus Chromium.
