Box Updates Its Outlook Plugin And Makes It Available For Users With Free Accounts, Too

Desktop-based email clients aren’t exactly a hot topic these days, but millions of users still rely on their trusty Outlook client. To bridge the gap between Outlook on the desktop and the web, the popular online content-sharing and management service Box has long offered an add-on that allows Outlook users to use Box for managing email attachments. Until today, this add-on was only available for paying Business and Enterprise customers, but starting now, even users with free Box accounts can install this plugin. Using Box instead of traditional email attachments, the company argues, allows users to ensure that the size of an attachment is “no longer an issue since you can replace them with shared links to Box.” In addition, using Box allows users to manage permissions and track who has accessed a file. All of this, Box says, happens inside the native Outlook experience and the system will ask users if they want to use Box whenever they attach a document to an email directly. Users ...

Coursera Adds 29 Schools, 90 Courses And 4 New Languages To Its Online Learning Platform

It’s almost as if there’s an arms race in online education. Which MOOC platform can expand the fastest? Place your bets now. On the heels of edX’s announcement that it will be expanding internationally with the addition of six new schools (bringing its total to 12), Coursera is doing some addition of its own. Today, the massive online course platform announced that 29 universities from around the globe have agreed to bring their courses online (for free) via Coursera. The new members will join the 33 institutions already on board, bringing Coursera’s grand total to 62. And, of course, just as edX was kicking back to celebrate its five new handpicked international members, Coursera announces that its updated roster just so happens to include 16 international institutions itself. Panasonic And Canon Factories Are Attacked By Chinese Demonstrators, Suspend Operations

Aggressive demonstrations in and near Panasonic's and Canon's Chinese factories have forced the companies to temporarily suspend operations. According to the French news agency AFP, demonstrators are motivated by nationalistic reasons and events that occurred over the past few days. The Japanese Government bought a private yet critical archipelago in the East China Sea: the Japanese call it the Senkaku Islands, and the Chinese call it the Diaoyu Islands. The island group is just one of many islands responsible for the strained relationship between the two countries because of geostrategic motivations.
