Glass Explorer Edition To Ship Within Next Month, Google Confirms
Today during Google Venture’s “Glass Collective” event, Google told us that it hopes to get the Glass hardware into the hands of developers “within the next month.” The exact date for when Google plans to ship the first publicly available versions of Glass remains unknown, but Google has now confirmed to us that it is now very close to shipping the $1,500 devices to developers. Shipping Glass within next month, of course, makes sense, given that Google will host its annual I/O developer conference in San Francisco from May 15 to 17. Glass will surely take center stage at this event and if Google wants to get developer excited about the project and talk about (and launch) Glass’ Mirror API during I/O, it needs to get the hardware into the hands of developers soon. Last year, Google allowed I/O attendees to pre-register for Glass, but the company never really reached out to these developers since (except for sending them glass blocks with their number on the wait list engraved ...

Mozilla: Unlike FB and Twitter Single Sign-in, Persona Protects User Privacy
tsamsoniw writes "Mozilla today unveiled Persona Beta 2, the newest edition of the organization's open authentication system. The release includes Identity Bridging, which lets user sign in to Persona-supported sites using their existing webmail accounts, starting with Yahoo. Mozilla used the release as an opportunity to bash social sign-in offerings from Facebook and Twitter, which 'conflate the act of signing into a website with sharing access to your social network, and often granting the site permission to publish on your behalf,' said Lloyd Hilaiel, technical lead for Mozilla Persona. He added that they are built in such a way that social providers have full visibility into a user's browsing behavior."

Google To Send Out Invites To Its Glass Explorer Program Over The Next Few Days, No Word On When It Plans To Ship Them
Google just announced that it will send out invitations in the next few days to those who participated in its #ifihadglass campaign. Later this week, it will contact those who had the best ideas through Google+ and Twitter and invite them to purchase Glass for $1,500 and then pick up their devices at a number of events that the company is planning in San Francisco, New York and L.A. later this year. It’s not clear when exactly Google plans to ship these Glass Explorer Editions. During I/O last year, Google allowed developers to pre-register for Glass, but it’s been very quiet about the program ever since. Given that it is about to make its selection for the #ifihadglass program public (and with the next I/O kicking off just a few weeks from now), chances are the company will also provide an update to these pre-registered developers soon. For now, Google stressed in today’s Google+ post, the program is only open to individuals. “We also want to call out that we received great applications ...

Iran Blocks 'Illegal' VPNs, Google, and Yahoo
First time accepted submitter voul writes "Iran is at it again. Taking a page from China's playbook, Iran has moved to cut off illegal VPNs. 'Quite aware of the censorship they face, many Iranians use proxy servers over virtual private networks to circumvent government restrictions and mask their activities,' CNET reports. 'However, officials now say they have blocked use of the "illegal" tool.' Slashgear reports that users are 'unable to access social networks like Facebook and Twitter, or use services like Skype to make phone calls. Along with the blocking of the VPNs, the Iranian government have also blocked access to Google and Yahoo.'"
