Warby Parker Grabs New Investment From American Express & J. Crew CEO, Closing $41.5M Round
New York-based eyewear startup Warby Parker is off to a good start in 2013, having recently been fingered as a possible partner for Google Glass. Now the company is reported to have gained an additional investment from American Express and J. Crew chief executive Millard S. Drexler. The new investors went in alongside General Catalyst, Spark Capital, Tiger Global Management, Thrive Capital, Lerer Ventures and Menlo Ventures, in a round totaling $41.5 million in financing, which officially closed in January.

Now 2.5M Users Strong, Crowdsourced Learning Platform StudyBlue Grabs $9M To Help Students Study On The Go
Today, Wisconsin-based startup, StudyBlue, announced that it has raised $9 million in series A-1 funding led by Great Oaks Venture Capital. The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) also contributed to the investment, which will allow the startup to continue building on its strong, recent growth. StudyBlue, which allow students to create their own online and mobile study tools in a digital backpack through which they can store, study and share course material, has grown to a user base of 2.5 million students strong.

DIY Animation Platform PowToon Grabs $600K For Its Video Creation Software
PowToon, an animation platform that lets anyone build marketing videos on the fly, is announcing it has raised $600,000 in outside funding. The investment doesn't come from traditional VC backing, but rather from Startup Minds, a newer L.A.-based accelerator with a non-traditional strategy where investments can range anywhere from $25,000 up to $600,000. The accelerator also doesn't have time limits, and the amount of outside involvement is up to the company funded.
